Nursing Care for Patients Receiving General Anesthesia forLaparoscopic Cholecystectomy: Two Case Studies

Purposes: To analyze and study the guidelines for patient assessment, problem identification, risk assessment, and nursing care planning to prevent complications that may occur at all stages of receiving general anesthesia in patients who underwent laparoscopic gallstone surgery from admission to discharge.
Study design: A case-by-case study was conducted to compare 2 patients.
Materials and methods: A case study was conducted, selecting patients with non-inflammatory gallstones who were scheduled for laparoscopic gallstone surgery and received general anesthesia in the nursing department of the operating room and anesthesia department of Selaphum Hospital between January 2024 to March 2024. The study was conducted from the practice and inpatient medical records, and two patients were studied for comparison.
Main finding: From the assessment of the health status of both patients, there were similar and different issues. Therefore, the researcher analyzed the data by using the nursing process concept to determine nursing diagnoses before, during, and after anesthesia rehabilitation, covering physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects. The focus was on providing information to patients and relatives, emphasizing communication with the health team under the knowledge Skills and experience from general anesthesia practice in laparoscopic surgery found that patients were safe and had no complications from the first admission until discharge.
Conclusion and recommendations: This case study can be used as a guideline for nursing care for patients who received general anesthesia for laparoscopic gallstone surgery.
