Development of the community participation model for promoting early childhood development

Abstract

Purposes : Purpose to develop a model for community participation to promote early childhood development within the context of Amphur Muang community, Roiet Province.

Study design : This participation research with mutual collaboration approach.

Materials and Methods : The subjects were divided into two groups which included situation analysis group, and the development and evaluation group. The situation analysis group of 20 subjects consisted the urban health center heads, professional nurses, public health technical officers, community public health officers, and nurse aids. The development and evaluation group consisted parents or child guardians, and children aged 9, 18, 30, 42, 60 months which were 113 subjects in total. The data were collected using activities implementation satisfaction questionnaires with the reliability Chornbach alpha of 0.74. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in terms of means, percentages, and standard deviations.

Main findings : The research results revealed that the access to child development monitoring service in the community was 100%. It was detected that 13.26% was probably developmental delay at all 5 age ranges. 6.67% was necessary to be referred to developmental stimulation treatment at tertiary care facility.  The implementation activities included: 1) coordination of the target group from family doctors to community health volunteers 2) appointments of the target group at all age ranges for social gathering In the community area 3) age ranges development monitoring In the community by public health officers 4) using on line social media for implementation 5) satisfaction evaluation of the implementation in the community. The satisfaction of the guardians in participating with the activities was mostly at high level (98.23%).

Conclusion and recommendations : The authors suggested that there should be periodic monitoring of implementation evaluation even after the research was ended to find guidelines, techniques, or methods for solving problems of the implementation of early childhood development promotion continuously and sustainably.
