Abstract

Purpose : To study the numbers of positive cases Gene X pert test among the sputum smear negative for AFB staining in Acute Respiratory Infection cases from Chaturaphak Phiman Hospital.

Study design : A Retrospective Descriptive Research.

Materials and Methods : Study from the patient history register from the program of Chaturaphak Phiman Hospital. During the fiscal year B.E. 2019-2021 and from the TBCM web program during the fiscal year 2019-2021. Collect data and analyze results. The study subjects were sputum samples of at-risk populations whose sputum smears were negative for AFB staining and examined by molecular biology techniques (Gene X pert) at Roi Et Hospital, 349 cases.

Main findings : It was found that 58 (16.6%) of the samples were positive (Detected) for molecular biology (Gene X pert) and 291 (83.4%) were negative. The positive samples were males more than females significantly (p<.05). The most common age group is over 60. The prevalence of positive gene x pert patients was found in Hua Chang Subdistrict and Nam Sai Sub-district. There were 10 cases equally. Followed by Dong Daeng Sub-district, 7 cases were found, respectively. According to the prevalence of various risk groups, it was found that the abnormal pulmonary x-ray results were consistent with tuberculosis but AFB smear results were negative, representing (96.6%).

Conclusion and recommendations : The results of this study found that Molecular biology real-time PCR using X pert MTB/RIF genetic testing can increase the detection efficiency of tuberculosis.
