The Development of Nursing Care Systems for Open-Heart Surgery Patients in the Two Partner Hospitals (Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital and Sisaket Hospital) under the Innovative Health Care Management Policy

Abstract

Purpose: To assess the results of development of Nursing care systems for open-Heart surgery patients in the two partner hospitals (i.e., Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital and Sisaket Hospital) under the innovative health care management policy.

Study design: Evaluation Research.

Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of project participants. 1) Operating room preceptors of Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital 2) Operating room registered nurses (Sisaket Hospital) who joined the training program. 3) Operating room preceptors at Sisaket Hospital. 4) The surgical team involved in developing a nursing system for open heart surgery patients at two partner hospitals totaled 30 people. The sample was obtained by purposive sampling. Research tools are 1) The Development of Nursing Care Systems for Open-Heart Surgery Patients in the Two Partner Hospitals. 2) A training schedule for nurses who participated in the project. 3) The handbook of nursing practices for the open-heart surgery. Data were collected by using a competency evaluation form for operating room preceptors from the two partner hospitals, a competency assessment form for the operating room nurses who attended the training of all three surgical phases and the project evaluation report (based on a patient perspective). For the data analysis, the quantitative data was analyzed employing a descriptive statistic of percentages and means, whilst the qualitative data was investigated using content analysis.

Main findings: The evaluation results showed that the project was considered acceptable at a very good level (Mean=4.21) and when considering each aspect, it was found that the context evaluation, Input Factor, process evaluation, effectiveness, input Evaluation, sustainability and transportability evaluation were appropriated in all aspects (Mean=4.17, 4.30, 4.21, 4.24, 4.30, 4.10 and 4.26) respectively.

Conclusion and recommendations: The results of this research indicate the success factors of planning management, organization, leadership and evaluation. To strengthen and expand the results of capacity development in operating room personnel in the hospitals of the 10^th Regional Health Authority.
