This study aimed to 1) develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a new interactive electronic book entitled “Female indwelling catheterization”; 2) compare students’ achievement before and after using the interactive electronic boo;, and 3) evaluate the students’ satisfaction with the interactive electronic book. The research and development designs were employed in two phases. Phase 1 was developing the new interactive electronic book and assessing its efficiency. Phase 2 was the evaluation of the effects of the interactive electronic book on student achievement and student satisfaction. A sample of 174 sophomore nursing students at Rangsit University was recruited and divided into two groups; Group 1 (n=90) was assigned to assess the efficiency of the interactive electronic book in phase 1, and Group 2 (n=84) was assigned to evaluate the effects of the interactive electronic book, focusing on achievement and satisfaction with the interactive electronic book in phase 2. Instruments used in this research included the interactive electronic book, a test of knowledge related to female indwelling catheterization, and a questionnaire of satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests, and One-sample t-tests.
The results showed that the efficiency of the interactive electronic book was found to be higher (80.70/90.60) than standard criteria (80/80). The posttest knowledge scores were statistically significantly higher than the pretest scores (p<.001). Additionally, students’ satisfaction toward the interactive electronic book was significantly higher than 80 % (p<.05). Based on the research results, the researchers would suggest using this interactive electronic book for female indwelling catheterization to augment classroom teaching and self-study.
