Effects of Educational and Social Support on Foot Ulcer Prevention Behaviors and HbA1c Blood Sugar Levels among Patients with Diabetes at The Na Fai Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

The quasi-experimental research study the effect of education and social support programs on preventive behaviors of foot ulcers and blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. The sample included 60 patients with diabetes came to service at Na Fai Health Promoting Hospital. Specially selected according to the specified qualifications, 30 persons were divided into experimental and control groups. The control group received usual care. The experimental group received the intervention based on the health belief model and social support theory. Duration of the intervention was 12 weeks. Instruments used for collecting data
were general information questionnaires and blood sugar level and questionnaire on prevention behavior of foot ulcers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Dependent t-test statistics.

               The results showed that after participating in the activity, the experimental group had good mean score of prevention behavior of foot ulcers and the mean HbA1c blood glucose level after participating in the activity was significantly different (p<.05).After participating in the experimental group, The prevention behavior of foot ulcers and HbA1c blood sugar levels were better than before.
