The purpose of this quasi-experimental research is to examine the effects of caregivers coaching program on caring behaviors for 1-2 years old child with pneumonia follow from the concept of Coaching-Teaching by Pasloe and Wray. The two groups post-test was used by comparing mean score of caregiver behaviors between group 1: the caregivers for 1-2 years old child with pneumonia who received coaching program and group 2: the caregivers who received routine nursing care.
The purposive sampling of 22 pairs mothers who has 1-2 years old child with pneumonia which admitted in
Roi Et hospital. They were assigned to the control group and the experimental group. Each pair of sample was matching by educational level and experience in caring for 1-2 years old child with pneumonia. The experimental group received this coaching program and the control group received routing nursing care. The research instruments consisted of 1) The experimental instruments:- the caregivers coaching program, the coaching teaching plan and handbook for caregivers who care for 1-2 years old child with pneumonia. 2) The demographics data collection form, the caregivers caring behaviors questionnaire which validated by 3 experts with CVI = 0.76. The Cronbach’s alpha reliability was 0.79. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test.
The result revealed that caregivers caring behaviors for 1-2 years old child with pneumonia of the experimental group who received coaching program were significantly higher than the control group who received routine nursing care. (p < .001)
Conclusion and suggestion: The caregivers coaching program can improved caregivers caring behaviors for 1-2 years old with pneumonia and can support nursing care for pneumonia children in the hospital.
