Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDS) are a growing problem and most importantly the cause of death, But NCDS can be prevented because most of the main causes or risk factors are caused by inappropriate behavior. Home visit is a proactive way of providing public health services, covering the promotion and prevention of risk groups to improve health care and conduct themselves well.
This study was quasi-experimental. One group was compared before and after the experiment. The purpose for study the effects of empowering home visit using the family genogram for prevention of diabetes mellitus and hypertension among high risk population. The samples are people at risk of diabetes, and hypertension, 100 cases, selected by simple random sampling. The subjects participated in the empowerment home visit program using the family genogram for prevention of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, 6 month period, consisted of home visit, create the family genogram, context of risk factors, process empowerment: relationships, observing and giving suggestions for changing disease prevention behaviors. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and comparative statistics Paired simple t-test.
The study indicated that most of the subjects were female, with an average age of 62 years, working in agriculture, average monthly income 2,158.70 baht. After participating in the empowering home visit using the family genogram for prevention of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The subjects had an average score of disease prevention behaviors such as food, exercise, and stress management was higher than before participating in the project with statistical significance at the level of .05. Clinical outcomes include blood pressure levels, blood sugar levels, and the body mass index was better than before joining the program with statistical significance at the level of .05.
