Abstract

This quasi- experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical practice guidelines  for pressure sore prevention among critical patients, Fort Prachaksinlapakom Hospital, Udonthani province. The development process using National Health and Medical Research Council [NHMRC]. The participants were 12 members of the Development team and 30 patients. The participants were selected by purposive sampling with conclusion criteria and divided in to 2 groups, experimental and controlled group. Instruments for collected data were; 1) Personal data records, 2) Opinions assessment toward clinical practice guidelines using by nurses, risk assessment of Braden scale for predicting pressure sore risk, and 3) Pressure sore incidence. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi - Square test.


                The results of this study showed that: 1) the incidence of pressure sore between two groups was statistically significant different (p<0.01). None of the experimental group had pressure sore compare to the control group (0.06%) 2) The overall satisfaction score of nursing team to clinical practice guidelines was at the highest levels (X=̅4.88, S.D=0.32) Nursing team agreed that the guidelines were easy to follow (X=̅4.8, S.D.=0.46), clear content (X̅=4.8, S.D=0.32), clinically useful (X̅=5, S.D=0.00) and the possibility to use clinical practice guidelines at highest levels (X̅=4.88, S.D=0.32). In conclusion, the clinical practice guidelines can be used for pressure sore prevention in critically patients in Fort Prachaksinlapakom Hospital.
