The aim of this systematic review was to examine home injury prevention program for children aged 0-5 years. The review was conducted according to Joan Anna Briggs. The inclusion criteria were 1) research published during 2006-2016 and 2) experimental or quasi-experimental research design. The search terms were "child injury," "program," "home," and "caregivers". Searching yielded 43 studies but only five studies that examined effectiveness of home injury prevention program for children aged 0-5 years were selected.
The findings were 1) knowledge delivery were as individual and group education 2) teaching methods were lecture, counseling, home simulation, home visit, helping with home security improvement, and distribution of booklet, leaflets, videos, and posters 3) settings were well baby clinic, daycare, community center, and home 4) educators were healthcare personnel and trained health volunteers 5) program length ranged from one day to six months 6) program contents were home and environment safety, first aids, child growth and development, and child rearing practice, and 7) dependent variables were incidents of home injury in children, caregivers’ knowledge and behavior on home injury prevention.
This systematic review indicated the important roles of health personnel and health volunteers in effective delivery of knowledge and activities on home injury prevention for caregivers in clinics and community.
