Factors Affecting Food Consumption Behavior of Mathayom Suksa 3 Students in Muang Chumphon District Province

Abstract

The purposes of the study were to study 1) factors that affected food consumption
of Mathayom Suksa 3 students in Muang Chumphon Distric, Chumphon province, 2) food
consumption behaviors of the students, and 3) the relationship between the factors and
behaviors of these students. The subjects were 321 Mathayom Suksa 3 students in Muang
Chumphon Distric, Chumphon province. The study duration was May-September, 2014.
To collect data, the research instrument was questionnaire. The statistics used to analyze
the data were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Correlation
Coefficient.
It was found that a factor that generally affected the subjects’ food consumption
was a personal one. The desire to eat certain food caused by the desire of the taste they
have consumed before was rated highly. The subjects were found to be highly knowledgeable
about food consumption. They were also highly found to consume junk snacks for breakfast
on a daily basis. The relationship between the factors and behaviors of food consumption
was found to be positively, statistically significant 0.05, such as the attitude toward food
consumption and knowledge.
It was found that the subjects had high knowledge about food consumption, which
resulted in a high relationship between knowledge and attitude and their food consumption.
As also found, most students have eaten a lot of junk snacks as breakfast, so parents should
insist on students eating healthy breakfast instead.
