Abstract

The study of contaminated level of Lead and Cadmium in imported Salted Crab (Sesarma Mederi) from Union of Myanmar passed through the Check Point of Ranong Food and Drug Administration and compare contaminated level of Lead and Cadmium with the standard (Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No. 98, in1986 (B.E.2529) Re: Prescribing standards of Contaminated substances.). To determine the compliance to regulations a collecting of 401 samples of Salty Crabs of fiscal years 2008-2012, has been tested for the contaminated level of Lead and Cadmium by the Regional Medical Science Center 11, Surathani Province and RegionalMedical Science Center 12/1, Trang Province. Both centers have used the In-house method SOP 39-02-187 base on AOAC (2005) 999.10, following are the reports of salty crabs. The result showed that the lead level from 362 samples was in percentage of 90.27% and Cadmium from 257 samples was 64.09%. Considering the previous past 5 years, the examination of Lead has been continually decreasing in small scale. The level of Cadmium has been increased. After considering the contaminated level of Lead and Cadmium from imported crabs in the past 5 years it can be shown that the percentage arithmetic mean of Lead has been increasing. ( 0.314±0.193 mg/kg). While the percentage mean of Cadmium was reduced ( 0.029±0.021 mg/kg). Comparing the contaminated level of lead and cadmium in the samples of salty crabs with the standard (Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No. 98, in 1986 (B.E.2529) Re: Prescribing standards of Contaminated substances.) has stated the contaminated level limit of lead in food can be less or equal to 1 mg per 1 kg. The result has shown that 3 samples of crabs have exceeded the standard level by 0.75%, The Ministerial Notification has not prescribed the standard level of cadmium. It is therefore imperatives that the customers be protected from consuming any contamination food. It’s the responsibility of the government or any departments which are involved in establishing and implementing the safety standards. The Food and Drug Administration should determine the standards for contaminated substances are that constitute risky substances and the necessary standard of food safety. Collecting the data of the Cadmium contamination levels in the food in Thailand is necessary.
