Evaluation of the Nurses’ Competency Class 1 who Completed Specialized Nursing Course of Care for Stroke Patients, Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Saraburi

Abstract

  This evaluation-descriptive research aimed to evaluate nurses’ competencies class 1 who complete specialized nursing course of care for stroke patients, Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Saraburi. Data were collected during December, 2018 through February, 2019. The quantitative data were collected by using the stroke nursing competency assessment, which the researcher created, from 19 graduates and 10 graduates' co-workers and qualitative data were collected by interviewing supervisors of 5 graduates. The descriptive statistics was used to analyze quantitative data and content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data.

  Results revealed that; 1. The competency level of the graduates in all 8 areas is very good. 2. The perspectives of stroke nurse specialist in nursing care stroke patients’ competent categories found that, nursing behavior for stroke patients’ categories, the stroke nurse specialist have more confidence, knowledge and understanding in pathology of cerebrovascular disease and having more attention to the patient. The stroke nurse specialist has more satisfied in caring of stroke patients’ categories, seeking for knowledge and improving quality of care. They have been applied knowledge regarding to medical administration, physical therapy, pathophysiology explanation and stroke patients’ health assessment.

  Recommendations should be given to training courses aimed at enabling trainees to have high competency that can be used in the development of nursing practice to achieve good patient health outcomes.
