Progression Free Survival with Erlotinib in First Line Treatment EGFR Mutated Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Stage IV in Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital

Abstract

Background: Lung cancer ranks as the second most prevalent cancer in Thailand, with a significant proportion of patients (68.42%) being diagnosed at a metastatic stage. Recent advancements in targeted therapies focusing on epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations have markedly enhanced treatment outcomes for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to assess progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with metastatic NSCLC who were treated with Erlotinib at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital.

Methods: This retrospective study utilized the medical records of patients treated at the Department of Internal Medicine, Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital. Data collection spanned from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2024.

Results: The study included 200 patients with metastatic NSCLC who were treated with Erlotinib. The average age was 66.1 ± 10.3 years, with females comprising 70.5% of the group and males 29.5%. EGFR mutations were primarily found in exon 19 (69.0%) and exon 21 (29.0%). At the three-month mark, most patients (74.0%) experienced a partial response. The median progression-free survival was 12.83 months (95% CI: 11.10–14.57), while the median overall survival was 21.47 months (95% CI: 19.60–23.34).

Conclusion: Erlotinib was linked to both progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with metastatic NSCLC.
