Abstract

Headaches are common and frequent among Thais; occurring in people of all genders and ages. If patients do not pay attention and have not received a proper diagnosis or timely treatment, it can turn out to be serious and chronic health implications affecting physical health, mental well-being and daily life. Currently, the most common types of headache in contemporary medicine include tension headache, cervical headache resulting from cervical spine injury, and migrainous headache. The symptoms for each type vary with multiple causes and factors contributing to them. This study references acupuncture treatments for all three types of headache, using data from CNKI, Pubmed and other available online databases within the last 10-years. It concludes that acupuncture, along with various principles of Chinese medicine, can effectively treat headaches of all types clinically, presenting itself as another viable treatment option for alleviating patient discomfort.
