Abstract

Retention after orthodontic treatment is essential in maintaining the tooth alignment. Some adult patients require re-treatment due to dental relapse, causing unnecessary expense, resources and time. Patient compliance in wearing retainer is of the utmost importance to ensure the successful treatment. The purposes of this review article are to assess the compliance behavior with retainer wearing after orthodontic treatment, to present retention regimen and to provide factors affecting patient compliance in retainer wearing. This can be applied in orthodontic treatment and useful for further study.
