Trends in Breast Cancer Mortality Rates in Thailand, 2010-2020

Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among Thai females. It is not clear, whether or not mortality rates of breast cancer in Thailand increased from 2010 to 2020. This study examines trends in age-specific and age-standardized mortality rates for breast cancer (C50) among the Thai population.
Mortality data during 2010-2020 were analyzed based on ICD-10 for breast cancer (C50). Both age-specific and age-standardized mortality rates per 100,000 were calculated and descriptively analyzed for trends.
The results show breast cancer mortality rates (C50) increased almost threefold in ten years for females. The increase in mortality might be explained by the increase in risk factors including aging of the population, higher fat diet, obesity, and hormonal factors. Health policy should increase its efforts in controlling and reducing the risk factors by promoting healthy behaviors. It is also important to educate health care providers about screening for breast cancer.
