Development of Participatory Injury Prevention Model for Informal Workers : Case study of Snakeskin Gourami Fish Processor, Samutprakarn Province.

Abstract
This research aim to develop participatory injury prevention model among informal workers in the snakeskin gourami fish processor. The research procedure was divided into 3 phases. Firstly, survey study of general data and work injury ploblems by using a qestionaire among 82 sample. Secondly, develop participatory injury prevention model for informal workers and trial among 30 participants and thirdly, evaluated effectiveness of model was quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest design. The intervention model was implemented 12 weeks. There were 82 subjects selected purposive sampling, and were divided into the experimental group and the control group of 41 each. The evaluation of the model was measured by safety behaviors using a questionnaire before and after the intervention every 2 weeks, totally 7 repeated. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics in terms of percentage, mean and standard diviation. Inferential statistics were used independent sample t-test and Man-Whitney test.
The results revealed that most experental group used to have accident from work in the last 12 months (53.66%). The majority of the experental group had injury from sharp objects cut or wound (41.46 %) and the wounds were on the fingers (31.71%) and the control group used to have accident from work in the last 12 months (58.54%). The majority of the control group had injury from sharp objects cut or wound (48.78%) and the wounds were on the fingers (46.34%). The result of the model development revealed a suitable model for implementing on the subject. There were 5 elements included 1. Hazard identification 2. Safety training 3. Safety behavior observation and follow up 4. Safety motivation and 5. Participation. The result of before the intervention revealed that mean safety behaviors between the experiment group and the control group were not significantly and after the intervention revealed that mean safety behaviors of the experiment group was significantly higher than the control group at 4,6,8,10 and 12 weeks.
Thus, this model could be used by the primary health care unit and the stakehodlers as a guideline for safety behaviors promotion among the informal workers in community to decrease the occupational incident.
