Patient Safety Culture among Staff at a Private Hospital in Bangkok

Abstract

The purposes of this survey research were to : (1) study overall and aspect-specifc patient safety culture among staff; (2) study patient safety culture among staff in each section and types of work; and (3) compare the patient safety culture among staff in each section and types of work, all at a private hospital in Bangkok. This is a survey research. Of all 850 executive and operating staff members with at least 3 months of work experience at the private hospital, 301 were selected, using the stratifed random sampling method, to participate in this study. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. Statistical analysis was undertaken to determine percentages, means, standard deviations, and one-way ANOVA. The results revealed that : (1) among the participating staff at the private hospital in Bangkok, their opinions on overall and aspect-specifc patient safety culture were at a moderate level; (2) among outpatient and support sections’ staff, and indirect and non-patient contact staff, their opinions on overall patient safety culture were at a moderate level, but the opinions of inpatient, general support and patient-care staff were at a high level; and (3) staff working at different sections and with types of work had non-different opinions on overall patient safety culture.
