Effect of Hydrotherapy Program and Land Based Exercise Program on Quality of Life in Elderly

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to study the effect of Hydrotherapy program and landed based exercise program on quality of life in the elderly. The participants of this study age 60 years or older but not more than 80 years (≥60 years - 80 years). All participants were randomized into two groups: 1) Hydrotherapy group (n=30) and 2) Land based exercise group (n=30). Each group was asked to exercise 3 times a week for 8 weeks. The research instrument used to collect data was the Thai-version of WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires (WHOQOL-BREF-THAI) in assessing the quality of life. The questionnaires were asked before and after training program. The results showed that the hydrotherapy group and land based exercise group had the overall quality of life in medium level (95.03±0.24 และ94.23±0.21) respectively. After training the hydrotherapy group and land based exercise group presented statistic significant increases in overall quality of life (p=0.002 และ p=0.000). Mean score of overall quality of life are 98.66±0.15 99.70±0.12 respectively. In conclusion that both hydrotherapy program and land based exercise program can improve quality of life in the elderly.
