Abstract

The purposes of this research and development wereto develop an operating sterilization system based on Lean concepts at SichonHospital, Nakhon Si Thammarat province and to evaluate the effects of the developed operating sterilization system in terms of time spent on the operating sterilization system, the number of defective sterilized equipment, job satisfaction of staff, and satisfaction of professional nurses on central supply services. The sample consisted of 1,677 dressing sets (before 557 sets and after 1,120 sets), 7 central supply staff, and 35 professional nurses. The research instruments includedjob satisfaction survey, and service satisfaction survey. The content validity was verifed by 5 experts. The content validity index of the job satisfaction survey and service satisfaction survey were 0.90 and 1 respectively.Cronbach’s alpha reliability  coeffcient of both surveys were 0.95. Data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, dependent t-test, Z-test, and Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test. The research fndings found that processes of the developed operating sterilization system based on Lean concepts were decreased from 17 steps to 16 steps. Time spent on the operating sterilization system andthe number of defective sterilized
equipment after using the developed operating sterilization system were statistically lower than before. Moreover, the central supply staff rated
their job satisfaction signifcantly higher than before. Finally, professional nurses rated service satisfaction at the high level.
