Drug Use Evaluation of Inhaled Corticosteroid and Long Acting β2-Agonist (Fluticasone Propionate 250 mcg + Salmeterol 50 mcg) in Hospitalized Patients with Asthma and COPD in Pasang Hospital, Lamphun Province

Abstract

     This retrospective study aimed to examine Drug Use Evaluation of Fluticasone Propionate 250 mcg + Salmeterol 50 mcg (FCS), effectiveness of FCS in asthma and COPD patients, and drug expenses of FCS that effected on financial management of Pasang Hospital. The study recruited 57 patients from those who attended Easy Asthma COPD Clinic at Pasang Hospital, Lamphun Province and received FCS for the first time. Data was collected from medical records from October 2013 to September 2014. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and calculation. Results of the study revealed that the prescription of FCS, which was evaluated with indications, was at 77.2%. After treatment with FCS, daytime and nighttime symptoms, use of rescue bronchodilator in asthma patients were reduced and lung function measurements were improved. Acute exacerbation in COPD patients was reduced and average of COPD Assessment Test was depreciated. ER visit and hospitalization were reduced in these patients that effected on cost saving of 160,824.7 baht. Cost of FCS in universal coverage’s patients was 160,949.4 baht (95.1%). Prescription cost of used FCS that effected on Hospital financial status was 121,507.8 baht. The hospital should determine the policy of promoting medication adherence and Concurrent DUE should be done in the future that can solve problems during
the study.
