ABSTRACT
Objectives: 1) Study of smoking cessation rate at smoking cessation clinic, Siriraj hospital. 2) studying about factors that influence smoking cessation.
Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive study of 94 patients who received treatment at smoking cessation clinic between 2009-2011. Information had been collected from medical charts include general information such as age, gender, duration of smoking
and Fagerstrom score as well as information about quitting rate at 4 weeks 12 weeks 6 and 12 months and factors that might affect quitting rate such as type of health insurance or medical illness. Statistical analysis used percentage, mean, standard deviation and
chi-square for identifying factors influened smoking cessation.
Results: There were 94 patients who received treatment at our clinic. Patients remained smoking free at 4 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 and 12 months were 34 (36.2%), 35 (37.2%), 30 (31.9%) and 16 (17%) respectively. There were 71 patients (75.5%) whom lost follow up
or could not reach by phone. Of 45 patients used civil insurance (covered by government). Factor influenced smoking assation at 12 weeks and 6 months was civil insurance coverage.
Conclusion: Outcome of our smoking cessation clinic was similar to other clinics. Smoking cessation rate at 6 months is 31.9%. Patients who had civil insurance had higher successful quitting rate at 12 weeks and 6 months.
