Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare the nursing behaviors before and after studying an online training program on service behaviors in a private patient division. The sample was 55 professional nurses on duty in the private patients nursing division of a tertiary care hospital. The first research instrument was a new online training program based on WHO guidelines and line application. The seven modules of such a training program were: 1) dignity, 2) freedom of thought, 3) confidentiality, 4) prompt attention, 5) access to social support networks during care, 6) quality of basic amenities and 7) choice of care provider. Each module had 3 steps: learner preparation, learning, and evaluation. The second research instrument was a nursing service behaviors assessment form, divided into 2 parts: 1) general information, and 2) nursing service behaviors, which consisted of 28 items to be answered on a 4-point Likert ranging scale from 1 “never” to 4 “always”.  Five experts examined the content validity of all instruments. The content validity index of the online training program and the nursing services behaviors assessment form (part 2) were 0.98 and Cronbach alpha reliability was at the 0.86 level. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and content analysis.

The research results showed that after learning via the online training program, nursing service behavior scores of professional nurses were statistically significantly higher than those prior to the course learning in both overall and subscale (p < .001). Prompt attention was the highest changing score (t=9.418, p< .001). On the other hand, the choice of care provider was the lowest changing scores (t=3.681, p< .001).
