Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study was quasi-experimental research, using a two-group, pre - test/post - test

design, was to examine the effectiveness of health behavior modifcation program among
overweight and obesity primary student. The sample is students with overweight and
obesity age 10-12 years, 30 persons each were in experimental group and control group.
The health behavior modifcation program was implemented with the experimental group,
including traffc light eating behaviors, reading nutrition labels, principles of physical
activity and social support from the teacher for 12 weeks. The control group received
usual care by the school only. Self-effcacy, Social support, Eating behavior and Physical
behavior questionnaires were used for collecting data at before and after the intervention.
Examined by 3 experts and test CVI =1, test Cronbach’s alpha for reliability were .88, .91,
.84, and .85 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t
– test and paired t–test.
The results indicated that the mean score for Self-effcacy, Social support, Eating
behavior and Physical behavior of the experimental group was signifcantly higher than
before received the program and higher than the control group (p<.05).
The results of this study show that the health behavior modifcation program can
be applied to health promotion for primary school students.
