Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research one-group pretest-posttest design aimed to 1) study self-directed
learning behavior of nursing students. 2) to Compare the effects of Self-directed learning
behavior of nursing students before and after using the teaching and learning program
using the portfol, and 3) Study of nursing students opinion on portfolio. The population
was the 127 second year nursing students who registered for course of Information
in Nursing, academic year 2018, Faculty of Nursing, St. Theresa international College.
The samples were selected by purposive sampling. Research instruments composed of
1) Opportunity for learning 2) Self-concept of effective learners 3) Being creative and
independent in learning 4) Responsibility for self-learning 5) Love in learning 6) Creative
initiative 7) Looking for a positive future and 8) Ability to use learning skills and problem
solving skills. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and paired t-test.
The results showed that nursing students had signifcantly different self-directed
learning behaviors (p <.001). Nursing students had higher self-directed learning behaviors
than before and over all 8 topics.
The portfolio assisted, nursing students developing self-directed learning behaviors.
It should be used as the teaching method on variety courses of Nursing.
