ABSTRACT
This study aimed to study 1) dietary control behavior among controlled and uncontrolled plasma glucose level of diabetic patients and 2) personal factors predicting dietary control behavior among controlled and uncontrolled plasma glucose level of diabetic patients. The subjects were controlled and uncontrolled plasma glucose level of diabetic patients attending the outpatient department of a community hospital in lower northern region of Thailand. A total of 236 patients were selected by simple random sampling. The study instruments consisted of Demographic Data Form and Dietary Control Behavior for Diabetic Patient Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression.
The results revealed that dietary control behavior of both controlled and uncontrolled diabetic patients were at a high level. The controlled group had a mean dietary control behavior score of 2.88 (SD=.21) and uncontrolled group had a mean dietary control behavior score of 2.90 (SD=.24). Personal factors that could explain 10.36% of variance in dietary control behavior of the controlled group were gender and education. Personal factors that could explain 9.9% of variance in dietary control behavior of the uncontrolled group was gender.
The results provide basic information for health care provider to promote dietary control behavior in diabetic patients.
