The effect of delaying renal deterioration using a community participation model for patients with chronic kidney disease in Khlung District, Chantaburi Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Appropriate management to slow down the deterioration of kidney function could effectively reduce the incident rate of chronic kidney disease.
Objective: This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of delaying the deterioration of renal function using a community participation model for patients with chronic kidney disease in Khlung District, Chantaburi Province.
Methods: This quasi-experimental research study was designed, using two groups with pretest-posttest design. A purposive sampling technique was used to recruit 60 patients with chronic kidney disease in Khlung District, Chantaburi Province. The sample was divided into two groups, 30 patients to the experimental goup and 30 patients to the control group. The instruments included 1) the delayed kidney deterioration using the community participation model and 2) the delayed kidney deterioration behavior questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and independent t-tests.
Results: The study showed that the delay in renal deterioration behavior and eGFR before and after the intervention were significantly different in the experimental group (p<.001). The delay in renal deterioration behavior, eGFR, FBS, and BP after the intervention were significantly different between the experimental and the control groups. (p<.001)
Conclusions: Delaying the deterioration of renal function using the community participation model for patients with chronic kidney disease could be a choice to reduce the incident rate of patients with chronic kidney disease in the community.
