The key informants selected through purposive sampling were fifteen postpartum adolescent mothers under the age of twenty in the department of postpartum care. The data were collected using in-depth interviews and analyzed using content analysis.
Results: Five main themes emerged, including: 1) belief, 2) social support, 3) environment, 4) perceived benefit, and 5) perceived barrier.
Conclusions: This study was conducted as a first-phase to collect baseline data for the subsequent-phase and to serve as a model for the development of a program to encourage adolescent mothers to successfully breastfeed.
