Factors associated with Quality of Life in Palliative Care Patients at Buddhasothorn Hospital, Chachoengsao Province
Abstract
This descriptive research aimed to study the quality of life in palliative care patients and to examine the relationship between personal attributes, treatment factors, care factors, and quality of life in palliative care patients at Buddhasothorn Hospital, Chachoengsao Province. A purposive sampling method was used to select 110 palliative care patients and 110 palliative care caregivers for the study, which was conducted from October 2025 to January 2026. The research instruments used were questionnaires comprising patient personal information, treatment factors, quality of life, caregiver personal information, palliative care caregiver skills, and a general patient care skills assessment. Data were analyzed using chi-square statistics and Spearman correlation coefficient. The study found that the quality of life of palliative care patients was at a moderate level. Furthermore, correlation analysis revealed that education level and income were significantly correlated with the quality of life of palliative care patients
(p-value <0.05), duration of illness and overall self-care ability assessment were significantly correlated with quality of life in palliative care patients (p-value < 0.05). Correlation coefficients between care factors and quality of life in palliative care patients showed that the functional, symptomatic, health status, and health status dimensions of quality of life were not correlated with overall palliative care factors. Therefore, the skills of caregivers should be developed to provide effective home care, and home visits should focus on physical and mental health and self-care in daily living for palliative care patients.
