Abstract

This research studied the effects of measures to control the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and different strains of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, as well as cattle vaccine uptake. The number of Covid-19 infections and fatalities was examined by collecting secondary data between 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2021 from the Ministry of Public Health Department of Disease Control Covid-19 Dashboard database and Global initiative on sharing all influenza data (GISAID) database. According to the results of applying a multivariable model, receiving three additional doses of vaccine reduced infection numbers (adjusted incidence rate ratios [IRRadj] = 0.86; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] =0.75 – 0.99), and prohibiting gatherings and lockdown measures reduced infections (IRRadj = 0.33; 95% CI = 0.11 - 0.95 and IRRadj = 0.06; 95% CI = 0.04 - 0.32). As Beta and Delta strains spread, infections increased (IRRadj = 1.24; 95% CI = 1.01 - 1.52 and IRRadj = 1.02; 95% CI = 1.01 - 1.02). In addition, receiving complete 3-dose vaccines was associated with a decrease in COVID-19 deaths (IRRadj = 0.84; 95% CI = 0.71 - 0.98), and prohibiting gatherings decreased COVID-19 fatalities (IRRadj = 0.18; 95% CI = 0.05 - 0.64), while Beta infections and Delta increases were associated with increased COVID-19 deaths (IRRadj = 1.35; 95% CI = 1.03 - 1.76 and IRRadj = 1.02; 95% CI =1.01 - 1.03).

These findings suggest that prohibiting gatherings and offering three vaccine doses are significant means to reduce illness and fatalities. This may be useful for policy planning, developing control measures, and proactively surveilling future emerging diseases.
