Abstract

This study was survey research on factors related to self-prevention behaviors against alcohol consumption of students in a private university in Samutprakarn province. The objectives were to examine the characteristics of the associated factors and to analyze the relationships between predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors, and self-prevention behaviors regarding alcohol consumption among 323 students selected through simple random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire comprising knowledge and beliefs about drinking alcohol consumption, attitudes toward drinking alcohol consumption, access to alcoholic sources, social support and self-prevention behaviors against alcohol consumption. The questionnaire has a reliability score of 0.88The findings showed that, overall nursing students exhibited a high level of self-prevention behaviors against alcohol consumption ( $\bar{x}$ = 3.85, S.D. = 0.88).

The predisposing factors had a low positive correlation with self-prevention behaviors against alcohol consumption (r = .27, p < .01). The enabling factors had a low positive correlation with self-prevention behaviors against alcohol consumption (r = .24, p < .01). The reinforcing factors had a moderate positive correlation (r = .35, p < .01)

The results of this research allow the Faculty of Nursing to use strategies to create the right attitudes, perceive impacts of alcohol drinking and the development of tailored activities and educational programs.
