Abstract

This combination of experiences, qualitative and quantitative research, of a Cambodian alumni in learning Bachelor Science Nursing had 3 aims: 1) to describe the meaning of the learning experiences, 2) to identify adaptations, limitations, and problems, and 3) to compare the opinions of learning and application in Cambodia. The measurements were; bio data, in-depth interview, and questionnaire validated out tried by 3 experts. The findings from the in-depth interviews revealed the meaning of learning experiences as an opportunity to upgrade themselves in nursing career and to improve nursing care to society. Nine themes had derived: 1) requirement of language and academic preparations, 2) adaptation of sample, 3) preference on methods of teaching, 4) usefulness of demonstration of nursing procedures, 5) experience in nursing practices, 6) supporting services from the library, 7) enjoyment of cultural activities, 8) application of learning in Cambodian health settings, and 9) rule and regulation to be followed.

The results from the questionnaires had found the highest mean of learning and the highest mean of application course was nursing process and health assessment. The results of the quantitative analytic data had revealed that the overall mean of learning was at fair level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.42, SD = 0.58) and the overall applied mean was also at fair level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 2.87, SD = 0.94) but there was significant statistical difference at 0.05 level.
