The Effects of Promoting Medicine Used Behaviors Enhancement Program with Mobile Application in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma Patients with Ocular Hypertension

This research was a quasi-experimental study of two groups, pre-and posttest design. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of medicine used behaviors enhancement program with mobile application for primary open angle glaucoma patients with ocular hypertension who received medical treatment at ophthalmic outpatient department, Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing). The samples consisted of 52 patients and were equally divided into experimental group (n = 26) and control group (n = 26). They were selected by the simple random sampling technique. The conceptual framework was the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model which consisted of 3 steps, namely 1) information 2) motivation and 3) behavioral skill. The experimental group received medication used behaviors enhancement program with mobile application for primary open angle glaucoma patients with ocular hypertension. The control group received regular nursing care. Data collection was performed using personal data questionnaire and drug use questionnaire in glaucoma patients. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test statistics.
The results showed that the mean score of medicine used behaviors of primary open angle glaucoma patients with ocular hypertension among the experimental group after receiving medicine used behaviors enhancement program with mobile application was statistically higher than before receiving the program and the mean score of medicine used behaviors among the experimental group after receiving medicine used behaviors enhancement program with mobile application was statistically higher than the control group who received regular nursing care p < 0.05
