The Outcomes of Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients at a Tertiary Level Hospitalin Ratchaburi Province

Abstract

          Acute Coronary Syndrome is a frequently and important health problem. It constitutes one out of five among the group of chronic non communicable disease, has the most admittance rate and has a trend of high prevalence of disease and mortality rate. Patients should adapt and accept the effects of transition.

          The purpose of this Quasi-experimental research was to study the outcomes of cardiac rehabilitation program in acute coronary syndrome patients at a tertiary level hospital in Ratchaburi Province. The research data collection was done from December 2014 to February 2015. The data were collected specifically from both male and female patients, who had receivedtreatmentat cardiac care unitin Ratchaburi hospital and received diagnosis with acute coronary syndrome. The research data were analyzed by computerized software program for percentage, mean, standard deviation, Independent t - test and Mann-Whitney U test.

          The results of the research indicated that acute coronary patients, who had received cardiac rehabilitation program through transition had health knowledge and cardiac rehabilitation behavior better than those who had not received cardiac rehabilitation program through transition with a statistically significant level at .05.

          Based on the results of this study, the researcher recommends that there should be further development of guidelines for nurses to take care patients who have acute coronary syndrome by using cardiac rehabilitation program through transition, consistent providing health education for disease and proper action, exercise, and focus on emotional support and encouragement in transition for acute coronary syndrome' patients. Further investigation should focus on knowledge and health behaviors to promote cardiac rehabilitation after discharge from hospital.
