Today evangelism spreads more rapidly than ever, resulting in the emergence of a number of new churches, followed by a stronger need of efficient leaders. Meanwhile we found that leadership development progresses only slowly. This results in a crisis of inadequate Christian leaders and its consequence is retardation of church growth in the long run. Therefore, Christian leadership development should be considered asan important and urgent task for the church today. This article reviews the importance of leadership development, definition and meaning of leader, characteristics of a leader, developments of servant leadership, and Christ-like leadership. This article aims to contribute new directions for Christian leadership development on the basis of the Scripture. The expectation of the study is that Christian leaders would be capable to lead with greater efficacy, which will benefit the church's evangelical and pastoral ministries in the future.
