The Uncertainty in Illness of Caregivers in Ischemic Stroke Patients

Abstract

          This research aimed to study the uncertainty in illness of caregivers in the Ischemic Stroke Patients by using Delphi technique. Specific sample were neurological physicians and stroke nurses in a total of 18 participants using the experts' opinion survey and questionnaires on the uncertainty in illness of caregivers in ischemic stroke based on Michel's theory.
          The study found that the levels of the uncertainty in illness of caregivers in ischemic stroke, according to the four aspects of Michel's theory, showed as followings; the most uncertain in illness of the caregivers was about the ambiguity of the medical condition (the median was4.36, the range between quartiles was 0),the second was the lack of information about the illness(the median was 4.38, the range between quartiles was 0.25), the inability to predict the results and progression( the median was 4.44 ,the range between quartiles was 0.25), and the complexity of treatment and care (the median was 4.42, the range between quartiles was 1), so the results of this research should be taken as a guide to create a sense of uncertainty in the assessment of the ischemic stroke caregivers, especially on the uncertainty of the medical condition to be adopted in the hospital planning to reduce the uncertainty in illness of the care givers
