Effect of Dementia on Older Adult in Thailand

Dementia syndrome is brain degeneration in cognitive function and intellectual function of person. This abnormalities behavior will being are recognize by impairment of reason thinking, memory, imagination, calculation, decision making and language usage. Incidence of will increase with age. Currently, Thailand has more than 10.3 million elderly. Among these the number of dementia patients was more than 229,100 person. It is estimated that Thailand will have 450,200 dementia patients in a minimum amount in 2020. The dementia patients increase doubles number every 20 years. Undeniable that Dementia is the negative impact of Thailand, The effect include : 1) Impact on patients, 2) Impact on relatives, care givers , 3) Impact on the family system, community and society, 4) Impact on the Thai economy, 5) Effects on health system. Overall impact dementia is causes loss of valuable personnel, cost of treatment is enormous, and lower national income, The working people have to increase burden on caring. Nurses are to be key person role will prevention, assessment and caring dementia on older adult person in Thailand.
