Publication Ethics

The Journal of Nursing Research, Innovation and Health has established publication ethics as follows:

1) Ethics of Editors

The Journal of Nursing Research, Innovation and Health establishes ethical guidelines and responsibilities for the Editor and Editorial Board in order to uphold academic standards, transparency, and the credibility of the journal. These guidelines are based on international ethical principles and the standards of the Thai Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI).

The Editor and Editorial Board must:

  1. Strictly maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts, authors’ information, and reviewers’ identities.
  2. Make publication decisions based on academic quality, significance, timeliness, and consistency with the journal’s aims and scope, without bias.
  3. Uphold the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record (academic integrity).
  4. Disclose and appropriately manage conflicts of interest transparently and ensure that commercial pressure or personal interests do not compromise academic and ethical standards.
  5. Be prepared to issue corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when errors or ethical violations are identified.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

The Editor is responsible for all content published in the journal, as follows:

  1. Conduct an initial screening of manuscripts to ensure consistency with the journal’s policies, aims, and scope. Manuscripts deemed unsuitable must be promptly returned to the authors.
  2. Check manuscripts for plagiarism using reliable plagiarism detection software. The journal sets a similarity threshold of no more than 35%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold or showing evidence of ethical misconduct will be handled appropriately, including rejection or retraction, at the Editor’s discretion.
  3. Assign at least three qualified reviewers from diverse institutions to evaluate each manuscript using a double-blind peer review process.
  4. Supervise, monitor, and control the peer review process, manuscript revisions, and publication decisions in accordance with established timelines and academic standards.
  5. Make final decisions on acceptance or rejection based on reviewers’ evaluations, clarity, quality, and scholarly value of the manuscript.
  6. Refrain from seeking direct or indirect benefits from authors or reviewers and from using manuscript information for personal or commercial gain.
  7. Reject manuscripts containing content that violates laws, morality, national security, or that is defamatory.
  8. Support academic freedom while ensuring responsibility and accuracy of published information.
  9. Ensure the quality and appropriateness of references and prevent citation manipulation or coercive citation practices.
  10. Strictly comply with the ethical guidelines of the Thai Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) and international publication ethics standards.
  11. Continuously improve the quality, processes, and academic standards of the journal.
  12. In cases beyond the Editor’s authority, submit the matter to the Editorial Board for collective decision-making based on consensus.

2) Ethics of Reviewers

Reviewers of the Journal of Nursing Research, Innovation and Health must adhere to ethical standards for peer review upon accepting an invitation, as detailed below.

Reviewers must:

  1. Treat all manuscripts received for review as confidential documents and must not disclose or discuss them with unauthorized individuals unless permitted by the Editor.
  2. Evaluate manuscripts objectively based on academic merit, originality, significance, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without personal bias.
  3. Disclose and manage conflicts of interest transparently. Reviewers must notify the Editor and decline the review if impartiality may be compromised.
  4. Not use information or content from the reviewed manuscript for personal, commercial, or academic benefit without written consent from the authors.
  5. Immediately notify the Editor upon identifying ethical issues such as plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate submission, or false citation.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

  1. Review manuscripts only within their area of expertise and provide independent and scholarly evaluations.
  2. Accept or decline review invitations promptly. If lacking expertise or having conflicts of interest, notify the Editor immediately.
  3. Complete manuscript reviews within the specified timeframe to avoid delays in the publication process.
  4. Provide constructive, clear, and evidence-based comments and recommendations to help authors improve manuscript quality.
  5. Focus on the scholarly quality of content, research methodology, data accuracy, and appropriateness of references rather than format or language alone.
  6. Respond appropriately and promptly to inquiries or requests for additional information from the Editor.
  7. Comply with professional ethics, reviewer responsibilities, the ethical guidelines of TCI, and international peer review standards.

3) Ethics of Authors

All authors submitting manuscripts to the Journal of Nursing Research, Innovation and Health must adhere strictly to publication ethics and international standards to ensure the accuracy, credibility, and scholarly value of their work.

Authors must:

  1. Certify that the submitted manuscript is original and does not involve plagiarism, redundant publication, data fabrication, or falsification.
  2. Confirm that the manuscript has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal.
  3. Properly and accurately cite all sources, ideas, or words of others in accordance with the journal’s reference style.
  4. Disclose conflicts of interest and research funding sources (if any) transparently.
  5. Promptly notify the Editor if significant errors or inaccuracies are discovered after publication and cooperate in correcting or retracting the manuscript.
  6. List authorship based on genuine contributions and obtain consent from all listed authors and acknowledged individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

  1. Submit manuscripts that are not published or under review elsewhere. Requests for manuscript withdrawal must be made in writing prior to publication.
  2. Ensure that all listed authors have made meaningful contributions. If inappropriate authorship is identified, the journal reserves the right to reject or retract the manuscript.
  3. Prepare manuscripts in accordance with the latest author guidelines of the journal.
  4. Be responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data, research findings, and references, including refraining from citing retracted publications.
  5. Allow plagiarism checks with a similarity threshold not exceeding 35%. Manuscripts exceeding this limit may be rejected or retracted at the Editor’s discretion.
  6. Revise manuscripts according to reviewers’ and Editors’ comments within the specified timeframe.
  7. Respect research ethics and avoid false reporting, data manipulation, selective reporting, or misrepresentation of results.
  8. Acknowledge that published articles are the copyright of the journal and may not be republished elsewhere without prior permission.

4) Human Research Ethics

Research articles involving human participants must receive approval from an institutional or relevant Human Research Ethics Committee prior to conducting the study.

  1. Authors must obtain voluntary informed consent from research participants or their legal representatives for data collection, use, or disclosure, respecting participants’ dignity, rights, and privacy.
  2. Authors must appropriately manage and anonymize participant data and use such data solely for academic purposes.
  3. Authors must clearly state ethical approval information in the manuscript, including approval number, approval date, and expiration date.
  4. Authors must submit supporting documents evidencing approval from the relevant Human Research Ethics Committee as part of the manuscript review process.
  5. The journal reserves the right to reject or retract manuscripts that fail to comply with human research ethics principles.
