Purpose: To study the effect of giving care information program for Cataract patients undergoing Phacoemulsification with Intraocular lens surgery on self-care behavior and patient satisfaction, Sikarin Hospital, Bangkok.
Design: Quasi-experimental research with a one-group design (Post-test only)
Method: The samples were 34 patients selected by purposive sampling following inclusion criteria as follows Cataract patients, aged over 60, who were undergoing Phacoemulsification with Intraocular lens surgery at Sikarin Hospital, Bangkok, and they were received an intervention, the giving care information program for Cataract patients undergoing Phacoemulsification with Intraocular lens surgery, specifically developed by researchers for this study. The two data collection tools were applied 1) The self-care behavior assessment for cataract patients undergone Phacoemulsification with Intraocular lens surgery which was used to collect the data among samples in one-group time series design and evaluated a total of 2 times at 7 day and 1 month after surgery and 2) The patient satisfaction evaluation form which was used to collect and evaluate the satisfaction of samples after receiving the giving care information program at 1 month after surgery. Their CVI were 1.0, and their Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient were .84 and .80, respectively. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) and Dependent T-Test.
Result: The mean score of self-care behavior among cataract patients undergone Phacoemulsification with Intraocular lens surgery after receiving the giving care information program at 1 month after surgery was significantly different from 7 day after surgery (t = 4.61, p< .05). Moreover, the patient satisfaction toward the giving care information program was highly satisfied (91.20%).
Conclusion: The use of the giving care information program for Cataract patients undergoing Phacoemulsification with Intraocular lens surgery resulted in improve of self-care behavior as well as the patient satisfaction toward the giving care information program was highly satisfied at 1 month after surgery, which were according to the hypothesis.
