THE EFFECT OF INFORMATIONAL SUPPORT VIA LINE APPLICATION PROGRAM COMBINED WITH THAI STYLE QIGONG PRACTICE ON PREOPERATIVE ANXIETY IN BREAST CANCER PATIENTS

Purpose: To compare the preoperative anxiety of breast cancer patients in the experimental group before and after receiving the informational support via line application program combined with Thai style qigong practice and between the experimental group and control group.
Design: Quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design
Methods: Forty four participants were breast cancer patients who undergoing surgery at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society. They were equally divided into the control and the experimental group and the groups were matched on age, type of surgery, and receiving chemotherapy before operation. The experimental group participated in the 2 week-program before operation, while the control group was given only routine nursing care. Research instruments were 1) demographic form; 2) the State Anxiety Inventory Form Y-I; 3) the informational support program via Line application combined with Thai style qigong practice; and 4) the validity checked questionnaire. The The STAI Form Y-I had Alpha Cronbach’s Coefficient of .88. Descriptive statistics and t-test were used in data analysis.
Result: The preoperative anxiety in the experimental group after receiving the program was significantly lower than that of the pretest phase (p<.05) and was significantly lower than that of the control group (p<.05).
Conclusion: This program can reduce preoperative anxiety in breast cancer patients.
