งานอนามัยโรงเรียน ถือว่าเป็นงานที่สำคัญประการหนึ่งของพยาบาลอนามัยชุมชนที่ต้องเข้าไปมีบทบาทในการให้บริการทางด้านสาธารณสุขที่ภาครัฐจัดให้แก่ประชากรกลุ่มวัยเรียนและเยาวชน สอดคล้องแผนพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งชาติฉบับที่ 12 ซึ่งมีเป้าหมายที่สำคัญในการดำเนินงาน คือ การพัฒนาความรู้และสุขภาพของเด็กวัยเรียน เนื่องจากวัยเด็กเป็นวัยที่สำคัญที่ต้องได้รับการดูแลใส่ใจให้เติบโตอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ และพัฒนากลายเป็นผู้ใหญ่ที่มีสุขภาพดี มีศักยภาพและคุณภาพเพื่อร่วมพัฒนาประเทศต่อไป บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเสนอเกี่ยวกับบทบาทพยาบาลอนามัยชุมชนในงานโรงเรียนในการดำเนินงาน เพื่อป้องกันและส่งเสริมภาวะสุขภาพของนักเรียน ซึ่งประกอบด้วยการจัดบริการด้านสุขภาพ ด้านวิชาการ ด้านการสร้างเสริมสุขภาพ และด้านอนามัยสิ่งแวดล้อม ในการส่งเสริม ป้องกันพฤติกรรมเสี่ยงต่างๆ ที่อาจเกิดขึ้นกับเด็กวัยเรียน ซึ่งเป็นการส่งเสริมสุขภาพทั้งบทบาทเชิงรุกและบทบาทเชิงรับด้านสุขภาพ ส่งเสริมให้เด็กวัยเรียนสามารถดูแลสุขภาพได้ด้วยตนเอง เพื่อให้มีสุขภาพที่ดีและมีแบบแผนพฤติกรรมที่ดี สิ่งที่สำคัญของงานอนามัยโรงเรียนคือการจูงใจให้ครอบครัว ชุมชน และโรงเรียนมีบทบาทและมีส่วนร่วมเชิงรุกในการดูแลนักเรียนซึ่งถือว่าเป็นทรัพยากรทีมีคุณค่าของชาติในปัจจุบันและอนาคตให้มากที่สุด
