Abstract

This action research aimed to examine the health behavior situation, develop a multi-health promotion program, and evaluate the effectiveness of multi-health promotion program for prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among working-age groups in the community.  The study samples consisted of 53 community dwellers and health leaders aged 20-59 years. Data was collected using questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and a multi-health promoting program.

The research findings revealed that the top three chronic illnesses among working- age people were diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia. The results of the multi-health promotion program found that eating behavior, drinking water, exercising, sleeping, and breast self-examination were significantly different after intervention (t = 2.972 2.520 3.963 2.019 and 2.212 respectively). In addition, body mass index, waist circumference, and diastolic blood pressure were significantly different after receiving the program (t = 3.24, 3.13 and 2.22 respectively). However, there were no differences in systolic blood pressure and blood sugar levels after receiving the program.

This multi-health promoting program in preventing non-communicable diseases could be used to promote health pattern and to change health behaviors in order to prevent chronic non-communicable diseases in the working-age population in the community.
