Factors Associated to Home Visit Nurse Performance Regarding Health Center’s Patients and Older Adults Home Health Care Standard

Abstract

          Providing quality nursing care in accordance with the established standards will enable a better quality of life. This analytical cross-sectional study aimed to examine factors associated to home visit nurse performance based on the standard of home care for dependent patients and elderly people at home. Two hundred fifty-one home visit nurses of the Public Health Center, Health Department, Bangkok Metropolitan were invited into the study. Data were collected using a three-part questionnaire created by the researcher from a literature review which consists of personal factors, situational factors, and the performance of home visit nurses with the Cronbach’s alpha ​​between 0.88-1.00. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square, and binary logistic regression statistics were employed for data analyses. Results revealed that the performance of home visit nurses was at a high level. The personal factor significantly associated to home visit nurse performance was perceived standard of performance. While the situational factors relating to the performance were organizational policy, additional training, supervision, and workload (p<0.05).

            Research recommendations include providing training for new home visit nurses, additional training for current nurses, supervision, written policy on risk prevention and management, and manpower management appropriate for the population in each community of Bangkok Metropolitan.
