The Effectiveness of Breast Self-Examination Promotion Program on Breast Cancer Knowledge, Self-Efficacy and Skills Toward Breast Self- Examination among Public Health Students at One Rajabhat University

Abstract
This two-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a breast self-examination promotion program on breast cancer knowledge, self-efficacy, and breast self-examination skills among public health students. The sample consisted of 70 female public health students in Years 1–4, selected through multistage random sampling. Participants were assigned to either an experimental group (n = 35), which participated in an 8-week breast self-examination promotion program, or a control group (n = 35), which received standard curriculum instruction. Data were collected using a breast cancer knowledge questionnaire, a breast self-examination skills assessment, and a self-efficacy questionnaire. The KR-21 reliability coefficients for the knowledge and skills instruments were .85 and .88, respectively, while the self-efficacy questionnaire demonstrated a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .93. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent and paired t-tests.
The results showed that, within the experimental group, the posttest mean scores for breast cancer knowledge, self-efficacy, and breast self-examination skills were significantly higher than the pretest scores (t = 13.25, 14.10, 33.16; p < .05, respectively). Furthermore, the posttest mean scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (t = 16.12, 14.88, 31.62; p < .05, respectively). These findings indicate that the breast self-examination promotion program was effective in improving breast cancer knowledge, self-efficacy, and breast self-examination skills among public health students.
Therefore, faculty members and healthcare professionals may consider implementing this program to enhance breast cancer knowledge and breast self-examination skills among students and in related educational programs.
