The Development of Clinical Nursing Practice Guidelines for Multiple Trauma Patients, Rayong Hospital in Honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research and development study aimed to develop and evaluate the outcomes of Clinical Nursing Practice Guidelines (CNPGs) for multiple trauma patients. The targeted sample consisted of 22 nursing personnel and 190 multiple trauma patients, with data collected from electronic medical records. Patients were separated into groups before and after using the CNPGs through purposive sampling. The development of CNPGs proceeded between March – August 2024. The development of CNPGs was divided into 3 phases: 1) development of the CNPGs, 2) implementation of the CNPGs, and 3) evaluation after using the CNPGs. The research data collection tools included a patient service outcomes record form with a Content Validity Index (CVI) of .92 and a questionnaire about service personnel opinions with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of .86. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and comparative statistics using Independent t-tests.
The results after using the CNPGs showed patient outcomes were significantly improved (p < .05) in oxygen saturation, shock index, and duration in emergency room (t = 2.30, 2.09, 2.12 respectively) with no differences in the level of consciousness and death rate within 24 hours. The multiple injuries nursing team reported high satisfaction (M = 4.44, SD = .39).
These CNPGs provide a standardized approach to multiple trauma care that can be used in other hospitals in similar contexts.
