Main Article Content
Abstract
A quasi-experimental study with two groups pretest-posttest design aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a health literacy enhancement program for postpartum mothers in improving their health literacy and behaviors regarding the prevention of neonatal hypoglycemia. This study was conducted with a sample of postpartum mothers from a Health Promotion Hospital, Regional Health Promotion Center 5 Ratchaburi Province. The participants were divided into an experimental group (n = 46) and a control group (n = 46). The experimental group received the health literacy enhancement program for postpartum mothers. Data were collected using questionnaire of health literacy, and behaviors regarding the prevention of neonatal hypoglycemia. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, and t-test.
Result revealed that post-program, the experimental group demonstrated a significant increase in health literacy scores (M = 77.52, SD = 4.03) compared to pre-program scores (M = 65.98, SD = 2.34) and the control group (M = 65.78, SD = 3.56) with statistical significance (t = 20.27, 14.80; p < .01). Additionally, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in behaviors related to neonatal hypoglycemia prevention (M = 4.63, SD = .35) compared to pre-program scores (M = 3.35, SD = .28) and the control group (M = 3.32, SD = .15) with statistical significance (t = 17.64, 24.09; p < .01).
The health literacy enhancement program significantly improved postpartum mothers' knowledge and behaviors regarding the prevention of neonatal hypoglycemia. Implementing such programs can effectively support postpartum mothers in managing their infants' health needs.
