Effect of a Knowledge Management Program on Counseling Behavior Regarding Breastfeeding among Nursing Students: A Post-pandemic of Coronavirus 2019 Outbreak in Nakhon Pathom Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research was a quasi-experimental study with two groups pre- and post-experiment. The objective of this study was to study the effects of a knowledge management program on the counseling behavior regarding breastfeeding among nursing students in Nakhon Pathom province during the post-pandemic period of the COVID-19 global outbreak. The sample group consisted of 70 nursing students who participated in clinical practice in breastfeeding service units. They were divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 35 students in each group. The research tools used included a knowledge management program on breastfeeding, a general information questionnaire, and a counseling behavior assessment scale. The content validity index was 0.86, and the reliability was determined using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, yielding a value of 0.96. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and statistical paired t-tests and independent t-tests. The research findings revealed that:
1. The nursing students in the experimental group had a significantly higher mean score for counseling behavior after the intervention (M = 3.63, SD = .67) compared to before the intervention (M = 2.72, SD = .64) (t = 6.93, p < .001).
2. The mean score for breastfeeding counseling behavior among the nursing students in the experimental group after using the knowledge management program (M = 3.63, SD = .67) was significantly higher than that of the control group (M = 2.72, SD = .64) (t = 6.92, p < .001).
The findings indicated that the knowledge management program can enhance the counseling behavior regarding breastfeeding among nursing students. It is recommended that continuous learning processes on this topic be organized.
