Factors Predicting Health Literacy among Coronary Heart Disease Persons in the Working Age Group
Main Article Content
Abstract
This predictive correlational research aimed to examine factors predicting the health literacy of working-age people with cardiovascular disease during July-August 2022. The participants consisted of 153 persons with coronary heart disease in the working-age group living in communities in Nakhon Pathom province, obtained through multi-stage random sampling. Data were collected using a personal characteristics questionnaire and a health literacy scale for persons with coronary heart disease. The reliability value of Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the entire version was .93. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
The results showed that the participants had overall health literacy scores at a good level (M = 97.75, SD = 19.22), but the aspect of access to health information and services was at a moderate level (M = 13.29, SD = 4.38). A regression analysis found that family income, years of schooling, age, marital status, number of family members, and family members aged 35 years and over could jointly predict health literacy with statistical significance (F = 10.16, p < .001) at 30 percent.
Therefore, nurses and related health teams should promote access to information and health services for people with cardiovascular conditions by organizing activities that consider their individual differences.
