A Development of Nursing Model for Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients in Accident and Emergency Department, Koh Sichang Hospital, Chonburi Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research and development aimed to develop and evaluate a nursing care model for acute ischemic stroke patients in the Emergency Department of Koh Sichang Hospital, Chonburi Province. The sample consisted of 12 professional nurses with at least 1 year of experience, selected through purposive sampling. Tools used included the acute ischemic stroke nursing care model for the Emergency Department, a general information questionnaire, and a knowledge and skills assessment related to acute stroke nursing care for professional nurses with Kuder-Richardson 20 reliability at .75 and .80 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The results show that;
1. The acute ischemic stroke nursing care model for the Emergency Department comprises: 1) triage screening into the fast track system 2) assessment and diagnosis 3) primary and specific nursing care 4) decision making and activate team 5) patient preparation and referral between hospital 6) coordination to enter the mobile stroke unit, and 7) follow-up evaluation after referral phase.
2. Professional nurses' mean scores for knowledge and skills in acute ischemic stroke nursing care after implementing the model were significantly higher than before, at the .05 level (t = 3.49, p = .032; t = 5.16, p <.001).
3. Acute ischemic stroke patients had significantly faster access times to mobile stroke units and emergency stroke treatment after implementing the model, at the .05 level (t = 1.30, p = .003; t = 1.13, p < .001).
The research indicates that the developed acute ischemic stroke nursing care model can be used to improve the efficiency of nursing care for acute ischemic stroke patients, resulting in safer patient care and outcomes that meet goals.
